Free Entry at Zwemvijver Boekenberg Natural Outdoor Pool during Summer!
If you are planning to go swimming in Antwerp during the hot summer and have not discovered Zwemvijver Boekenberg, this should be one of the swimming pools that you should not miss.
Zwemvijver means ‘swimming pond’ in English. The location is at Boekenberg which is in Deurne and near to Berchem. Moreover, Zwemvijver is right in the middle of a park, Boekenbergpark. Coincidentally, it is also near the Antwerp International Airport.
What is So Unique about Zwemvijver Boekenberg Ecological Pool?
➀ First and most important of all, the swimming pond is ecological. It makes use of the plants and stones as a water filter to purify the plant. That means no drying effects of chlorine and other harmful chemicals on the skin. The cold and purifying water is sure to rejuvenate you as well.
➁ There are two pools over there. The large pool is 73 m long with a depth of 1.80 m and 2.50 m. The small pool has a depth of 50 cm and is mainly for children.
➂ There is a large lawn over there. If swimming is not your interest, how about a picnic with your family and friends under the sun? The surface of the lawn is flat. So, it is indeed comfortable to place just a thin cloth and lie on a flat surface.
➃ Secure your belongings with ease. Lockers are available at a coin of 2 euro. At the end of the day, you can take back the 2 euro coin. If you intend to use the locker, arrive earlier as it gets more crowded in the afternoon so there might not be enough lockers for use.
➄ Within walking distance from Zwemvijver Boekenberg, there is a playground for the children. Although this is not the main attraction, it serves its purpose to keep them busy.
➅ You can play badminton in the open field beside the playground if there are not many people. As there is not much wind due to the side fences, the location is better than some other windy open fields. Bring your rackets though.
➆ Is free entry to the incredible all-natural swim site another unique feature to boast? The best things come for free. If you have a bike, it seems to be the most flexible way to get there easily and to spend a perfect afternoon swimming, suntanning, talking and eating!
Things to Note at Zwemvijver Boekenberg Outdoor Pool
❶ Wear an appropriate swimsuit because many are refused entry into the swimming site due to inappropriate swimwear. Here, I refer to the men who wear loose shorts. The men should wear appropriate swimming trucks. The security guards even have pictures on their hands to show what is the correct type of swimwear. If they refuse entry to these people, they are still allowed to remain on the lawn.
❷ For ladies, no T-shirt over the swimsuit or bikini in the swimming pool. Girls with long hair should tie their hair.
❸ Go as early as you can as in the afternoon, the lawn is full of people. It is likely that you would still be able to find a picnic or suntan spot there, but the position might not be ideal.
❹ During peak hours when there are many people in the afternoon, there would be an announcement in Dutch. It means that visitors can only swim for a block of 15 minutes. Usually, only 150 visitors are allowed into the swimming pond each time. In this instance, you can see a long queue outside the swim site. However, in 2o2o, only 60 people can enter into the swim site due to the corona measures.
❺ No sitting on the edge of the wooden platform along the swimming pool circumference. It is for the lifeguards to walk. They are constantly looking around the swim site for rules breakers.
❻ Water might still be cold in early summer as the temperature has not warmed it up enough. On the other hand, whether the water is cold or not is subjective.
❼ No food and drinks sold over there though. You have to self-supply your own. If you are lucky, there will be a van coming in the afternoon to sell ice cream. The business is good with a lot of people queueing up to buy from the ice cream truck.
Zwemvijver Boekenberg 2026 Schedule

Swan Market Antwerpen 2026
Swan Market Antwerpen originates in the Netherlands. It started in April 2015 in Antwerp. Ever since, once or twice a month from April to September in Grote Markt near the Groenplaats. You can locate Swan Market Antwerpen in front of the famous City Hall (Stadhuis van Antwerpen) and beside the Cathedral of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal).
The concept of Swan Market focuses on entrepreneurship in handmade design, vintage and organic items. They are mostly ladies’ stuff such as bags, wallets, jewellery and clothes, just to name a few of the more common displays. Because many items are handmade, the design only comes in a single piece. That is the uniqueness since there would be no repetition. The prices of these handmade items were high too.
What I like about the Swan Market Antwerpen during my visit under the blazing sun on a warm summer, was the free can of drink given by one of the sponsors, San Pellegrino. You can see from the photo below that many people were queueing up for free drinks. One could also choose the flavour. At another corner was a few food stalls and bars. Tables and seats were available.
There was also a bouncing castle for kids and some live music performances. As we arrived at 12.30 pm and stayed for nearly one hour there, their live music had not started yet. So far, the location of Swan Market in Belgium happens only in Antwerp. However, throughout the year, the Swan Market takes place in different cities in the Netherlands. The event in Antwerp is free.
Are You an Aspiring Entrepreneur?
For aspiring entrepreneurs who would like to rent a stall to display their handmade items or have ideas on any other creative workshops, you can check out the organiser’s page. The organiser would need a few days to decide whether your concept fits into their theme or if there is an overwhelming supply of similar objects on sale.

Rommelmarkt Dageraadplaats 2026
Antwerp Flea Market Locations and Photos
Rommelmarkt refers to a flea market. The event happens in Dageraadplaats 3 to 4 times a year in the Zurenborg district located in South-East Antwerp. Believe me, some of the items are indeed value-for-money if you are eagle-eyed to spot the hidden treasure among the pile of second-hand items.
As the Rommelmarkt Dageraadplaats does not happen every weekend as the typical flea markets do, therefore, expect to see many people who go there early to scout the best items there. Even in the afternoon, the flea market continues to have a large crowd of people.
There are approximately 110 exhibitors who set up their stalls as early as 6:30 am. You can look and walk around for a few hundred metres in the Dageraadplaats square. Like such a jumbo sales market in Belgium, you can find all sorts of stuff on sales. For instance antiques, clothing, shoes, household furniture and appliances, books, posters, etc.
Children and Playground
The parents can keep the children busy by letting them have fun on the playground. There are also several benches around the playground too.
Restaurants and Cafés
There are a few restaurants and cafés surrounding the Rommelmarkt Dageraadplats where you can grab a drink or have some food. However, many are not opened on Sunday too.
Sint-Norbertuskerk Church
The Rommelmarkt Dageraadplaats situated in front of Sint-Norbertuskerk Church gives the flea market a captivating background. The Sint-Norbertuskerk opens its door for visiting during the summer from 9 am to 5 pm every day. Therefore, you can visit the church at the same time.
How to go to the Rommelmarkt Dageraadplaats Flea Market?
- By Tram: Take a tram or bus from ‘Franklin Rooseveltplaats’ or ‘Berchem Station‘. Get off at ‘Berchem Draakplaats‘.

Rommelmarkt Goegekregen
Antwerp Flea Markets 1 – 5 Events Per Month
Rommelmarkt Goegekregen organises several flea markets in different locations all around Antwerp each month since 2009. The initiative first started with some residents collaborating to arrange a jumbo sale. It allowed individuals to have an opportunity for selling or exchanging their items. Later, Goegekregen evolved as a non-profit organisation after some internal shuffling.
Not merely relying on a function to sell. Subsequently, Goegekregen wants to do more with a vision to build a bustling city for all. A place where the locals and visitors gather periodically to experience the vibrant atmosphere while selling their items. Thus, one of their slogans is to give the clothes a second life. It is also possible to donate your unused clothing to a good cause.
Cooperation with private initiatives for purely commercial purposes is not possible within their local resources. Since then, Rommelmarkt Goegekregen has combined efforts with several neighbourhood associations and other organisations from Antwerp to achieve its mission. Now, they have even expanded their sales to Gent and Brussels.
Size of Goegekregen Flea Market
The scale of the flea market is dependent on the location and the number of participating sellers. With full occupancy, the number of booths can go as high as 200 at places like Park Spoor Nord and Theaterplein. Not surprising. With a mere 5 to 8 euros per metre, it is not costly to have a stand. Anyone can start trading second-hand items as well.
Goegekregen operates 1 to 5 flea markets every month. Most stalls are organised during the sizzling summer. On the contrary, January and February have the lowest records from 0 to 1. Undoubtedly, during winter, not many people want to come out of their cosy shelter. Hence, less crowd and motivation for the stallholders.
Goegekregen has won recognition and success from its supporters over the years, as evidenced by more than 27,000 likes on its Facebook Page. Hence, the best way to discover the next location is to like or follow their Facebook Page.

» Rommelmarkt Spoor Oost
Rommelmarkt Spoor Oost is a massive free flea market that transforms the former railway terrain into a sprawling bazaar of over 300–400 stalls, covering more than a kilometre of browsing space. You’ll find everything from plants, vintage clothes and retro vinyl to furniture, antiques, art and whimsical curiosities. Perfect for bargain-hunters and creative souls alike.
Goegekregen @ Spoor Oost is a highlight of Antwerp’s summer scene with positive vibes. The atmosphere is casual and communal with some pop-up food, drink and waffle corners always in a long queue, and a bar for conversation and a short rest. Certainly ideal for strolling, discovering hidden treasures, and soaking in Antwerp’s vibrant flea-market culture.
» Rommelmarkt Kempisch Dok
Goegekregen Kempisch Dok is truly a vintage treasure hunt by the water, set against a romantic backdrop with a refreshing breeze. This lively flea market takes place at the marina on the Kempisch Dok in Antwerp’s Eilandje district — a unique location surrounded by boats and waterfront views. Visitors can expect rows of stalls filled with second-hand goods, antiques, books, curiosities, and plenty of hidden treasures waiting to be discovered
The event has a relaxed outdoor vibe, with stalls lined up along the water’s edge. It’s not only a great place to shop but also a perfect weekend outing. You can browse vintage clothing, collectables, and home décor, then enjoy a drink or snack at the event itself or at the nearby yacht clubs, accompanied by live performance. Whether you’re a collector, a bargain hunter, or simply looking for a fun day out in Antwerp, Rommelmarkt Kempisch Dok promises a unique and welcoming atmosphere.
» Rommelmarkt langs de Antwerpse Singel
Rommelmarkt langs de Antwerpse Singel flea market is at the open space car park of Desguinlei and Kielsevest street. Prices for clothes and bags usually start at €5, based on a few encounters in which we enquired. Bargaining may still be possible, but not too far from the quoted price. I had bought a pair of shorts, reducing the price from €5 to €4.
» Goegekregen in ‘t Stadspark
The starting point of Geogekregen in ‘t Stadspark is near to the street of Van Eycklei where the statue stands. Usually, there will be more than one point of the flea market in the Stadspark. You have to walk parallel to Van Eycklei street, further down to discover more vendors.
Depending on the number of vendors taking part, sometimes there might be a break in between the path where you might not see much second-hand on display. Continue walking. You will then see more spots with flea markets. During the warmer summer, the whole stretch of the pathway will run continuously with a lot of vendors and people. Another plus point is the mobile toilets available.
» SNITT. Vintage & Tweedehands Kledingmarkt at StAck
The second-hand market SNITT. Vintage & Tweedehands Kledingmarkt at StAck is on the street of Rijnkaai 150 and in front of Waagnatie Expo & Events. This flea market sells only clothing. A prominent eagle statue anchors along the spacious walkway of the flea market. Bars, food and plenty of seats are available too.
Located near to the Scheldt river, there are more things to do other than the vintage flea market. Take a walk admiring the serenity of the river or visit the nearest museum – Red Line Star Museum or MAS Museum. All museums in Antwerp are free of charge to the public on the last Sunday of every month.

Swan Market Antwerpen 2026 Dates
The Swan Market Antwerpen 2026 has 6 published dates on every Sunday from May to October as follows:
Location: Grote Markt
- 7 June 2026
- 5 July 2026
- 2 August 2026
- 4 October 2026
On 7 June 2026, it has the same event date as Rommelmarkt Dageraadplaats, so you can kill two birds with one stone and visit them together. Swan Market Antwerp sells new items, whereas Rommelmarkt Dageraaplaats focuses on selling second-hand items. It is recommended to visit Rommelmarkt Dageraadplaats in the morning and then proceed to Swan Market Antwerpen, should they happen on the same day.
Public Transport to Swan Market @ Grote Markt
Located in one of the most touristic areas in Antwerp, locals would be familiar with the area and have no problem going there. However, I would like to be kind to tourists or people who are not sure how to get to Groenplaats. Here is a Google Map to reach the location.
» From Antwerp Central Station
Walk approximately 21 minutes for 1.7 km. If you take a train to Antwerp, the walk from Antwerp Central Station to Grote Markt is highly recommended. You can pass through Meir, which is the most trendy shopping street in Antwerp. However, on Sunday, most of the shops are closed. You get a glimpse of the fashion anyway. If you like, you can also catch a tram or bus in the vicinity.
» From Antwerpen Premetrostation Groenplaats
If you take tram 3, 5, 9 and 15, alight at “Groenplaats” Light Rail Station. Walk 400 m for 5 minutes to the Swan Market Antwerpen at Grote Markt.
There are a lot more trams and buses that go to the area around Grote Markt and Groenplaats. You have to find the tram number that is the most convenient for you to reach the destination by consulting Google Maps.
A few steps away from the Swan Market is a Vietnamese restaurant, Pho 61 in Grote Markt. Be it a bowl of Pho vermicelli noodles or just some spring rolls as snacks, read my food review of Pho 61 Antwerpen (closed) and try the food there! Have fun there!
